History / Vice Principal / Advisor to the Class of 2013
Mr. Zarazua is entering his seventh year at Unity. He spent four years as a Social Studies teacher and advisor to the Class of '08. After two years as Vice Principal he will return to the classroom, teaching U.S. History, serving as a 10th grade advisor, while also serving as Dean of Students.
Outside of the classroom Mr. Zarazua has made efforts to enhance the student experience by developing community partnerships with organizations such as The Community Rejuvenation Project, Oakland Food Connection, and helping organize outings, including trips to New Orleans, Washington D.C., and El Salvador.
His training includes an M.A. from The University of Michigan in Secondary Education. Before joining Unity High he worked various jobs, including an editorial position at a newspaper in Detroit, MI, and he's taught with organizations such as The University of Michigan's Program on InterGroup Relations and Stanford University's Upward Bound Program.
He currently calls Oakland home, but due to his father's career in the military he grew up in Europe, Asia, and various parts of the United States. As an adult he continues to be passionate about traveling and learning about the world and has spent time in Sydney, Paris and Taipei.
His interests ouside of teaching include music, writing, and photography. As time permits he maintains a website, www.domingoyu.com.
