ACAP application deadline extended to May 15

Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

Hello Friends of ACAP,

I hope my note finds you doing well.  I am writing you in hopes that you can help the Accounting Career Awareness Program (ACAP) reach deserving minority students that might be interested in participating in theACAP Summer Residency Week Program July 14 – 19, 2013.   We are extending the ACAP Application due date to May 15, 2013 to provide additional students the opportunity to apply for the program.

As many of you know, the ACAP is an innovative career development program designed specifically for minority students entering their sophomore, junior and senior year in high school in August or September 2013.  The program’s primary objective is to increase the number of underrepresented students of color that attend college and major in accounting, finance or business.  The 2013 ACAP summer residency week will be held at the University of California at Berkeley from July 14 – 19, 2013.  The summer residency program will include supervised field trips to Google, Facebook and the Big Four Accounting Firms in San Francisco as well as team building, lectures and our first annual business case study.  Best of all, the program is FREE.

As Chairman of the San Francisco Bay Area ACAP, I would like expand the awareness of the program and increase the pool of applicants for consideration of this life changing experience.

Please also contact me if you have any questions.

Unity students selected for out of state programs!

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Congratulations to Nori Dubon and Juan Carlos Rodriguez who will be going to Uruguay and Stephanie Gonzalez who will be going to Nicaragua for the summer as part of The Amigos de las Americas program.

“AMIGOS programs are founded on partnerships with local agencies that are carrying out ongoing work in communities in our host countries. Our partner agencies have two things in common. First, they are carrying out ongoing work to  promote community development in their countries. Second, they support our efforts to foster youth leadership, engage youth in community service and promote cross-cultural exchange in the Americas.”

Congratulations also go out to Yessica Muniz and Jennifer Franco who were both accepted to The Smith Summer Science and Engineering program in Northampton, MA!

“The Smith Summer Science and Engineering Program (SSEP) is a four-week residential program for exceptional young women with strong interests in science, engineering and medicine. Each July, select high school students from across the country and abroad come to Smith College to do hands-on research with Smith faculty in the life and physical sciences and in engineering.”

Congratulations and we look forward to seeing what your peers will be doing this summer!
