Oakland Unity High School Class of 2011 “Close Up” Washington D.C. Trip

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

The Class of 2012 is partnering with the Close-Up Foundation to travel to Washington, D.C. this summer! Using the nation’s capital as a living classroom, participants get a “close up” view of government and democracy in action.

We will travel to D.C. to get educated and inspired to become informed and engaged citizens. Our aim is not just to expand our minds and heart through experiencing new places and people, but it is also to learn things that we can bring back to our lives here in Oakland.

As a team of seven juniors and one teacher, we are working together to make sure we raise the money to pay for our program expenses, but we need some help from family and friends to raise the remainder of the funds.

National Charter Schools Week is here!

Sunday, May 1st, 2011

This year, more than 4,900 charter schools across the nation, including 912 diverse charter schools across California, will mark National Charter Schools Week the first week of May. This is an annual opportunity to not only celebrate the great work accomplished by charter public schools, but to:

=> Advocate for a more favorable policy environment for charter schools,
=> Show how the quality and accountability of charters schools is transforming public education and the lives or over a million children, and
=> Increase public awareness that charter schools are public schools dedicated to improving our nation’s public education system.
